Serbia has about 340 bird species, over 260 of them breeding in the country. Through the different relieves and landscapes, the country provides a wealth of habitats for the birds: alpine boreal grasslands, cliffs and rocky gorges, pine woods, juniper woods, peatlands, beech woods, aspen and birch woods in the mountains; orchards of apples, pears and plums on lower hills; and lowland grasslands, agricultural lands, salt pastures and marshes, mud flats, reedbeds, and alluvial forests of oak and ash, willow and poplar along the Sava, Danube, Tisza and Tamis rivers.

Arrival Belgrade and City Tour
Arrival at Belgrade Airport and start a guided tour to explore the capital city of Serbia – one of the oldest cities in Europe,
If the flight time permits, we will visit also the Ada Ciganlija Island in the Sava River. Savsko Jezero Lake attracts ducks in winter months; while Pygmy Cormorants roost by the lower end of the island.
We’ll see one of the most important sights of Belgrade – Saint Sava Temple, one of the biggest orthodox temples on the Balkans; We will pass by the National Serbian Library, the city center and Slavija Square, St. Mark Church and the Serbian Parliament Building, Republic Square, the National Theatre and National Museum. A walk through the always lively Knez Mihailo Street, main walking and shopping zone. The tour will end at Kalemegdan, the most important cultural-historic complex of the city. In the Kalemegdan Park, on the confluence of the rivers Sava and Danube, the Belgrade Fortress raises proudly, and is the witness of the tumultuous history of this ancient city. In the parks we can see the songbirds and woodpeckers.

The area is famous for many unique plants, reptiles and insects. It is also home to one of the greatest variety of mammals in Europe, with such rarities such as Marbled Polecats and European Molerats,

We enjoy a guided tour of the old town and visit the Serbian Orthodox cathedral of St George, the Synagogue as well as Petrovaradin, a fortress located at the top of the hill, offering spectacular views of the city and Danube River.
Novi Sad – Rusanda Nature Park – Novi Sad

A full day birdwatching excursion from Novi Sad. Rusanda is a shallow natron lake by the village of Melenci, 80 km north of Belgrade. nearby Rusanda Spa Park and the lake itself, has around 160 bird species.
Rusanda is a protected area and has a special importance for migrating waders.
In the afternoon return to Novi Sad. Dinner and overnight.
Novi Sad – Fruska Gora National Park – Novi Sad

Fruska Gora is a national park with a picturesque ridge of hills located only 78 kilometres from Novi Sad. The mountain is heavily forested with significant biodiversity, and surrounded by arable land. Forest covers 90 per cent of the national park, one third of it lime, also oak and beech. Lower slopes are overgrown by grassland, orchards and vineries.
The hills comprise a variety of habitats, including mixed forest, grazed steppe, farmland and meadows. The area has around 211 species. Full day birdwatching in Fruska Gora and afternoon return to Novi Sad, for dinner and overnight.

This morning we transfer back to Belgrade. Along the way we stop in two interesting bird watching sites, Carska Bara
Carska Bara is a Important Bird Area and receives special protection as a Ramsar site and has around 260 species. The reserve consists of flooded forest with large seasonal pools and extensive reedbeds (the largest in Serbia). Also, the surrounding fish ponds are the largest in Europe.
We take a boat tour to explore the area.
Driving further in the direction of Belgrade, we stop at the Tamis River floodplain; a 118 km long river. Along the stream there are large areas of dynamic water surfaces, wetlands, numerous oxbow lakes, inlets, swamps, wetland pastures, alluvial forests, and fishponds. Birdwatching time, before an afternoon return to Belgrade for dinner and overnight.
