Arrival – Belgrade
Arrival at Belgrade Airport and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon we take a guided tour of Belgrade to explore the capital of Serbia – one of the oldest cities in Europe. We will drive to the Vračar Plateau where we will see one of the most important sights of Belgrade – Temple of Saint Sava, one of the largest Orthodox temples in the Balkans. The Serbian National Library is nearby. Continue to the city center and Slavija Square, St. Mark’s Church and the Serbian Parliament Building, Republic Square, the National Theater and the National Museum. During a walk through the always lively Knez Mihailo Street, main promenade and shopping area, on the way to Kalemegdan, we visit the Congregational Church.
Belgrade – Cigota massive – Zlatibor
After breakfast in the hotel we drive to the starting point of the first full day hike of our Serbia trip. We climb some peaks of the Cigota massive (1422m) and enjoy the fantastic all-round view.
In the afternoon we drive to the old village of Sirogojno, an open-air museum to learn about the traditional architecture of the region from the 19th century. Here you can also buy self-knitted products made of wool, such as the Sirogojno sweater. For the night we drive to Zlatibor to reach our hotel.

Zlatibor – Tara National Park – Retro train ride through the mountains – Zlatibor
This morning we drive to the Tara National Park to the west near the border with Bosnia. During a hike through dense forests we reach the Banjska Stena viewpoint, from where we can have a kilometer-wide view of the Drina river gorge. Then we drive back and visit the villages of Drvengrad and Mokra Gora, picturesque mountain villages between Zlatibor and Tara. First the ethno-village Drvengrad (wooden town), built by the famous film director Emir Kusturica. The village, which includes the Mećavnik Hotel, houses, galleries, shops, a cinema and a church, is made of natural materials, mainly wood. The annual Küstendorf Film and Music Festival has been taking place in the village since 2008. Drvengrad was visited by Johnny Depp, Monica Belucci, Jim Jarmusch and many others. Upon arrival in Mokra Gora we will start a unique journey in an old retro train called the Sargan Eight. The train travels on the bottom of the Šargan Mountain on a path in the shape of the number eight. That is why it is called “Sargan eight”. This trip will take us back in time while enjoying the pristine mountain landscapes. The train ride takes 1 hour and stops in Sargan village. From there the bus takes us back to the hotel in Zlatibor.

Zlatibor – Manasija Kloster – Lake Bor
This morning we leave Zlatibor and drive in a completely different direction to reach the Danube region in the east. In about 4 hours we reach the Manasija monastery. Before the tour we will enjoy a traditional lunch. The monastery is one of the last monuments of Serbian culture of the Middle Ages. After visiting the monastery we drive again to reach today’s destination. On the way, we also take a walk to the Lisine waterfall before continuing to our hotel on Lake Bor.
Bor Lake – Felix Romuliana – Kladovo
After breakfast at the hotel, we will drive to Gamzigrad, one of the most important late Roman sites in Europe, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Early explorers believed that the ancient ruins were a Roman military camp because of their size and numerous towers. Systematic archaeological excavations since 1953 have shown that the site was actually an imperial palace. It was designed and built by one of the Tetrarchs, Emperor Galerius, the adopted son and son-in-law of the great Emperor Diocletian. After Felix Romuliana’s visit, we leave Gamzigrad and continue to Kladovo on the right bank of the Danube. On the way we stop in the Rajac wine region, where we go for a walk. Here we do a wine tasting with a traditional lunch in the Sveti Djordje vinotheque. Overnight in Kladovo.
Kladovo – Ðerdap National Park – Kladovo
We hike through the Ðerdap National Park, which is the largest river cliff landscape in Europe. The “Iron Gate” stands out as the most imposing valley breakthrough in Europe. This area is also the narrowest point of the Danube and that is why it was the most dangerous place for Danube navigation until the “Iron Gate” was built. In the afternoon we take a boat trip (approx. 2 hours) through the Danube Gorge. Only from the water can you see the Trajan’s Plaque, on which the Roman emperor boasts of his infrastructure measures.

Kladovo – Lepenski Vir – Belgrade
After breakfast in the hotel, we drive towards Belgrade, the capital. We take the panoramic route Here begins our journey through one of the most imposing valley gaps in Europe. First we marvel at a little known world: the Stone Age. In Lepenski Vir, traces of settlement 9,000 years old were carefully excavated and archaeologically preserved before the Danube dam was built. On the way we will also visit the Golubac fortress, also known as the pigeon town or pigeon castle. In the afternoon we reach Belgrade, the capital. Serbia Hiking Tour.
Belgrade – Novi Sad – Fruška Gora National Park – Belgrade
This morning we are heading towards Vojvodina, one of the most beautiful places in Serbia, to visit two of the most beautiful cities in the region: Novi Sad and Sremski Karlovci. In Novi Sad, the European Capital of Culture 2021, we will enjoy a walking tour of the city center, which goes through the City Hall, the Cathedral, the Assembly of Vojvodina, the shopping area with restaurants and cafes. We continue to visit the fortress of Petrovaradin, the so-called “Danube Gibraltar”, where the fortress is located. In the fortress we see the bell tower and the old fortress walls and have a wonderful view over the Danube, including the many bridges that span the river. We take a lunch break in an ethno village where authentic farmhouses are still in use today, offering traditional menus in traditional surroundings. In the afternoon we drive back to Belgrade. On the way we stop to visit Sremski Karlovci, a town full of vineyards rich in culture and history. Sremski Karlovci feels like a “museum town” with its baroque center, the Patriarchal Court, the Orthodox Cathedral of St. Nicholas and the first Serbian secondary school (grammar school). Here we start our hike in the Fruška Gora National Park to the Velika Remeta Monastery. It’s also famous for wine production and the city’s annual Wineball Festival. We will visit a local winery and enjoy wine tasting. Dinner and overnight in Belgrade.
